Garlic thrives in a warm, moist, and sunny environment. Its optimal growth temperature ranges from 15-25°C, with a minimum low temperature of -5°C and a maximum high temperature of 30°C. Garlic has a high demand for light, requiring at least 8 hours of sunlight per day. It prefers to grow in loose, fertile, well-drained sandy soil with a pH value between 6.5-7.5. Garlic has a high demand for water, but it does not like overly wet conditions. During the growth process, the soil should be kept moderately moist to avoid excessive water leading to leggy growth. A week before harvesting garlic, watering should be reduced appropriately to promote the ripening of the garlic. In addition, garlic has shallow roots with weak water absorption capacity, but it is not tolerant to waterlogging. Therefore, during high summer temperatures, attention should be paid to watering to keep the soil moist to meet the later water needs of garlic.
The planting time of garlic varies depending on geographical location. In the north, garlic is suitable for planting in spring due to the low temperature in winter; while in the south, it can be planted in either spring or autumn, as winter in the south is relatively less cold. The planting methods of garlic include soil cultivation and hydroponics. For soil cultivation, you can choose a ceramic pot, and the soil can be garden soil or humus soil, with appropriate fertilizer added; for hydroponics, you can use a transparent glass bottle or an open porcelain pot.
